February was a really interesting month in my Painted Diaries: we did color assemblages. I had never done that before and absolutely loved it. I learned a lot about color and about creating new narratives. This, because I deciced to only use my scraps.

In doing this, I revisited these much loved pieces of paper, used them instead of seeing them pile up and I was able to give them a new life based on their connection to other pieces. Totally win-win.

The image above is actually a self-portrait made from photo strips leftover from my pocket scrapbooking albums.

There is a definite summer feel to the two spreads above, the warm tones and the abundance of florals paints that picture in me.

The sudden appearance of new stories once these pieces of paper play off each other was my favorite aspect of this whole process.

In the case of the image above, it’s not so much color but the theme that lead to the creation of that assemblage. That was a happy surprise.

The Painted Diaries is a lovely daily art project initiated by Riet. I am excited to see where March takes us.
