Oh how this Season surprised me. I LOVED the premise of the Season of Steven….finding a muse and letting their words inspire us. I chose Burning Woman by Lucy H Pearce. It ended up being such a timely read!
I kept a visual thread throughout my book by using gold paint as flames and using printables of witches or classical paintings and similar imagery. Most of my printables come from Elly, Ms Cogs and La Green Witch. I used up so many alphabet sticker sets! When I was missing a letter, I either created it from other letters or added the missing part; turning f’s into e’s for example.
I also played with transparencies and texture, using anything from old packaging to scraps of velum.
I love writing with my dip pen so the majority of my spreads were done with that. Adding the splatters are part of the fun.
I also pulled out my neglected alphabet stencils and gave them some love.
It turned out to be such a passion project and really allowed me to delve deeply into this book.
So many paragraphs in this book hit home for me. It was a treat to put them in this altered book to commemorate their impact.
Reading this while 2020 is happening in the background was absolutely eye opening.
Lucy H Pearce wrote Burning Woman in 2015 and yet the words feel absolutely apt for these times.
I recommend this to anyone interested in coming back to a balanced way considering the world and of our place in it as Burning Women.
